Experience and Qualifications

Following a Commerce degree at the University of Toronto, Roger qualified as Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand in Canada in 1971.  He then obtained a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics, and was a university lecturer in Economics before returning to professional accountancy practice in 1980.

Roger founded Barcant Beardon in 1988 and retired from full-time practice in 2014, followed by retiring from his Director position on 31 December 2018. He continues to assist on a part-time basis as a consultant and with practice management matters. 


Roger is a devoted family man and proud of his West Indian personality which he credits with his own love of life and people, as well as the tendency to be a non-conformist. Since his teenage years, when he competed Internationally for Trinidad in swimming and water polo, he has retained an enthusiastic interest in following a wide range of sporting activity – culminating every 4 years with a heightened passion for the Olympics.  He has also remained a keen follower of the West Indies cricket team through good and bad times.

Roger has a passion for travel, varied cultural experiences and gastronomic delights, having travelled widely through the Americas, Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Africa, including family safaris in Tanzania, South Africa and Botswana.  Latest adventures include Istanbul and Vietnam.
