Shu Fen Chung

Shu Fen has always liked numbers so, after graduating with a BSC (Hons) in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Birmingham, she started her accountancy career working for a Chartered Certified accountancy firm in West Norfolk.  During her four years at the firm, she obtained a well-rounded experience in accounts, audit and tax.  When she moved to London, she worked in the finance department for a university before returning to practice.

In May 2003 Shu Fen joined Barcant Beardon as a semi senior and continued to grow and develop her knowledge, particularly working with the Not-for Profit organisations and charities.  She qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2004 and gained fellowship in 2009, after which she was promoted to Senior Audit Manager.  She managed most of the firm’s charity audits and independent examinations.  In 2017 she became a member of the Institute for Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and soon after gained her practicing certificates.

On 1 January 2019 Shu Fen became a director of Barcant Beardon and now manages a portfolio of corporate, charities and not-for-profit organisations as well as personal tax clients.  In addition to the preparation of the annual financial statements and tax returns, she advises her clients on accounting and tax matters and assists them with their requirements, which can vary from VAT registration to moving to Xero or from incorporating a company to dealing with share transfers.  As a director at Barcant Beardon, she shares the responsibility for managing the firm and dealing with staff training and recruitment and ensuring the firm is up to date and compliant with ethical standards and professional matters.  She works closely with her clients and her team, providing support and guidance.  There have been many changes since Shu Fen started her accountancy career, but she will continue to meet the challenges thrown at the profession.

Born and raised in Norfolk, Shu Fen now lives in Hertfordshire with her family.  When she is not taking her daughter to her various activities, Shu Fen enjoys reading, cross stitching and is planning to learn to crochet and knit.  She also loves to get out to explore the countryside and coast and hope to, one day, walk the whole length of the South West Coast Path!
